Thanks to their elongated bodies, tiny little legs and endearing expression, dachshunds are unmistakable. In fact, their unusual and comical appearance has even earned them the nickname “weiner dog.”
But while the sight of a dachshund can put a smile on anyone’s face, there are actually several dachshund mixes that may be even cuter. We’ll let you be the judge — check out 16 of the most adorable dachshund mixes below.
1. Doxle (Dachshund x Beagle)

I’m not sure if you could make a beagle more fun than they already are, but mixing one with a dachshund is a good start. This particular little chap has a beagle-like body with a face that takes after his wiener-dog parent. His adorable little kerchief doesn’t hurt his cuteness either.
2. Dorgi (Dachshund x Corgi)

If normal corgis are too stocky for you, then you’ll have to try a dorgi! Given the combination of personality, intelligence and adventurous spirit provided by the parents, this little pooch is sure to be a great companion. Most will likely excel at agility trials and even dog disc games.
3. Dachshound (Dachshund x Basset Hound)

Basset hounds already have a long-and-low body plan, but this pooch looks even more stretched out than most. That’s probably because of the influence of his weiner-dog parent; otherwise, this pup looks like a pretty standard basset hound.

Doxiepins are great-looking mutts that often feature the body of their dachshund parent with the color-scheme and face of a miniature pinscher. This little pooch actually has a fairly thick build given the two parent breeds, but that just means there’s more of her to love.

Doxbulls are spunky little pups, who combine dachshund-like deference with the exuberance and bold personality common to pit bulls. Given this pit bull influence in their gene pool, you’ll want to be sure to socialize these mutts early to make sure they get along well with other dogs.

However, by crossing them with a Pomeranian, you end up with a confident, yet malleable mutt that may excel at obedience competitions and agility trials. Note that some Chihuahuas have long hair, while others have short hair (and they exhibit two different head shapes too), which means that chiweenies are aesthetically variable.

If you want the soulful expression of a Weimaraner in a small package, a daimaraner may be the pooch for you. These are two very different breeds, and their contrasting personalities help to moderate many of their characteristics. For example, Weimaraners are notoriously clingy, but thanks to the dachshund influence, daimaraners are a little more comfortable when mom or dad isn’t around.

Labshunds pretty much have it all. Friendly? Check. Intelligent? Check. Affectionate? Check. Built like hysterical little hotdogs? You better believe it. Labshunds (also known as Dachsadors) are often a bit bigger and require much more exercise than dachshunds do, so be sure that you are prepared to be a full-time puppy parent before taking this plunge.
14. Terrishund (Dachshund x Terrier)

If you want a 20-pound dog who thinks he weighs 200 pounds, a terrishund may be just the dog for you. Full of that spunk for which terriers are famous, terrishunds are energetic, intelligent and easy to train.
Keep in mind that a Dachshund and terrier mix will likely result in quite the ratter dog, so think twice before bringing one of these guys into a house with small mammals around.
Just be sure you want a dog that will prefer to accompany you just about everywhere before picking one of these lovable mongrels.
15. Dachmation (Dachshund x Dalmation)

You know what makes a dachshund even cuter than it already is? Spots. That must have been the thinking behind the dachmations, who are typically as spotted as they are stretched-out and small. I adopted 7 year old 20 lb “dachshund” which is called a wire haired. But I think think this is incorrect. She is long and short legged , but she looks very much like a wheaten terrier with long wavy hair with a very curly head and ears. . Maybe I should call her a wheshund?! Very, very cute!!

It’s always tough to predict how big mixed breed dogs are going to get, as there are so many variables involved. In this particular case, things are complicated further because poodles come in multiple sizes.
All that said, we’d guess that a Doxipoo who was produced by a toy poodle and a dachshund would be pretty small — likely in the 15 to 20 pound range. However, Doxipoos with a standard poodle parent may get quite a bit bigger.

I love all the breeds of mixes of dachshunds. I had a pure bred smooth red mini for 18yrs. He was my best friend and I wear glasses and if I cried he’d jump. on me and lick my glasses and I d start laughing. 7+yrs ago he crossed Rainbow Bridge. I cried for months & then adopted a rescue mixed dachshund breed. He’s half dachshund & half Shelti. When ppl see him they call him a wiener dog but he looks like a long legged dachshund. He has beautiful markings and is mostly black. He may not be the smartest dog but he is truly loyal, very protective and a little lover! He’s my best friend. I don’t know what you’d call him? He doesn’t have a dachshund bark it’s more of the Shelti shrill! He’s my little goof ball and has a ton of energy and love! When I 1st got him if I were to start to go inside from the back yard he’d nip my ankles. I broke him of it but found he was only trying to herd me to stay outside and play with him. Dogs are truly amazing!

Don’t scold train use positive enforcement. Terriers are/can be independent and they like to act independent and they’re not meant to be dominated over. Earn the dogs respect the with consistent use of positive reward training.
You can use the clicker in treats do a little research and reading. The more time you put into the dog will net you the most amazing dog.

Please stop calling these breeds they are mutts. Not dorgis, not chidox, they are mutts and not one of these is cuter than the original breeds they used. And certainly not cuter than a dachshund. The larger breed dogs will suffer from terrible arthritis as tthe rest of theor bodies are not equipt with the correct conformation to handle smaller legs like a properly bred dachshund. Enough with making mutts already. They are just mutts thats all they will ever be because these people are only interested in making money off them and their silly names.

I rescued and dachshund and pekingese mix 2 months ago. Best! Dog! Ever!!! He is a senior and is the sweetest and most talkative little guy. He is 16lbs. He lived at the rescue for almost a year until I found him there. He got very sick right before I adopted him and had to have 2 blood transfusions. They didnt neuter him because he was high risk. He has a heart murmur.
Not sure what fancy name you would call his particular mix. But I call him my little miracle.

Boy do I agree with you. If the people quit buying these mixes, the breeders would quit breeding. Anytime you mix breeds you have to research all the breeds that make up the dog. They don’t call Doxies badger dogs for nothing and terriers are hunters. Most breeders don’t care about the quality they breed, they just want the money.

My Ember Lace was adopted in nov 2018. She was not to make money but to save her from kill shelter. She is the most beautiful mistake of sm dog meets large dog. You call her a mutt. Wow, nothing but elitist garbage right here. Every dog “breed” is descended from a mix/mutt of some kind. A dachshund’s body are about as natural as a pug’s snub-nosed face, i.e. humans have created these dogs to look and act certain ways by breeding specific traits and/or deformities in order to suit their working needs or vanity. And what arrogance to assume you have any say so on what is cuter or not. Ugh, people like this are why I have no regrets about leaving the veterinary field – I miss the animals. The owners? While I agree, several mixed up mutts (ie. Corgopepperdoodle, ????, sounds like a failed attempt to make new flavors of cheetos (not a reference to branded Cheetos). As a daschound fan who recently lost my best friend Rudy, (a blk/tan, I also have had the “what’s called a red, several times ” I was hesitant to buy a spotted, mocha /white, His sire was a REDCHOUND, the Dame was a smooth hair fox terrier, no blue eye, I can’t attest the one shown in the article as AKC, the spotted mocha, brown spots is now official, there is more than 75% dachshund (natural breeding, no genetic screwing around, and now several interactions and litters are genetically stable, and is now considered a color variant of daschounds. One note in prehistory there were only 4 separate canine breeds, (India’s douje, Australian dingo, North and mid Americas wolf, African wild dog , neo breeds are like you said are MUTTS, ( by definition all breeds are”mutts”, over a long time humans found certain traits desirable, for daschounds( German for badger hound, they were standards larger, to prevent losses of farm animals (badger holes broke legs of critical farm animals oxen, plow horses, etc. Doxies would enter burrow, flush the badger, they even dispatched, (tore the throat, a mountain lion won’t cross a badger the ability to “run backwards” while evading the business end of the badger. Of course whenever anyone considers going with a breeder instead of adopting, they should be very selective find a reputable breeder (we have a whole guide on how to identify good, legitimate breeders here). For Dachshunds this is doubly important due to all the genetic issues they have.

Hi Jennifer – thank you for the correction. As you can see from our source, the image here was taken from a larger list on another website, so there seems to be quite a bit of mislabeling around the photo from #15.
There is very little to no “official” information about crossbreed dogs like the ones seen here. Our research is based around finding photos that users have uploaded online of their own dogs. Unfortunately, if they mislabel their dog online, there is little we can do to correct that.
After all, outside of conducting a DNA test for every animal pictured, we can never know for sure what breeds these dogs are. Instead, we simply have to trust that when owners upload a photo of their dog saying that it is a “Dachshund / Labrador mix”, they are being truthful.
