We all love spoiling our dogs, and one of the best ways to do so is by baking Fido his very own cake!

Many dogs love canine-safe cakes, and they give you a fun and easy way to show your four-footer how much you love him.

Below, we’ll explain everything you need to know about dog cake mixes and then point out a few of the best ones on the market.

So tie on your apron, preheat your oven, and get ready to see your pooch lose his mind with lip-smacking joy!

What are Dog Cakes Made Of?

Most dog-friendly cake mixes use whole wheat flour, brown rice flour, or similar, healthier flours as opposed to white flour.

While white flour isn’t totally off the table, it contains fewer nutrients. Whole wheat, brown rice, and oat flour tend to be healthier for pups.

Most dog-friendly frostings are made from tapioca starch and/or yogurt. Human frosting tends to have much more sugar and also contains chocolate (which is toxic to dogs)!

Which Dog Cake Mix is Best?

All the doggie cake mixes we reviewed in this article are excellent choices. They’re all made in the USA and feature healthier flours (as opposed to white wheat flour which tends to be most common).

If we had to choose one dog cake mix though, we’d have to go with the PetCakes Birthday Cake Mix for Dogs. We love how healthy the ingredients are, featuring organic oat flour and brown rice flour.

There’s also no sugar or sweeteners in this cake mix, which is likely the healthier choice for doggos. Plus, it comes with a pan, frosting, and a candle – you don’t need to lift an extra finger!

What Kinds of Cake Mixes Can Dogs Eat?

Dog cake mixes are fairly similar to human cake mixes, but with a few major differences. Both are composed primarily of flour, sugar, baking powder, and baking soda. Human cake mixes tend to contain additional ingredients and spices.

Human cake mix also contains significantly more sugar and sweeteners than dog cake mix. In fact, many human cake mixes have sugar as the #1 ingredient – yikes!

Don’t forget that if none of the cakes listed here suit your fancy, you can make your own homemade dog cake – see some of our favorite recipes!
