I do have to disagree with something mentioned early in the article. Comparing diet to pre- domesticated K9’s. Though much is true except for 1 thing. The one thing that has not changed in K9’s is their digestive system and internal makeup. Therfore, a safe portioned sized raw meal based on breed and activity level is essential and optimal for K9’s in general.

Someone told me 4 health worked great for their dogs. So they are on 4 health salmon and potatoes. They have been on it for years but lately I have been second guessing my choice. If there is something better out there. One of my dogs is maybe 15. Has a somewhat large begnin tumor on the top of his shoulder and had arthritis in his back legs. Hes been struggling to get up and walk around. Almost looks hunched back when he walks. Mentally hes still happy and wants to go for walks, eats fine. So just his body is preventing him from doing what he wants to do. My other dog is 10 and had degenerative disk disease and has been paralyzed 3 times. Knock on wood it’s been 7 years since the last episode. But on occasion he has his days where hes in pain and doesn’t even want to move. My other dog is 8 only have has her a few months. Recused from kill shelter. Health wise seems good. Just barks and growls at ppl from time to time. They all get a little bit of coconut oil with their food and carrots for snack. I want the best quality life I can afford to give my dogs.

Hey, Bulldog.
Kayla is a busy trainer, so I’m not sure if she will have time to respond. That said, I’d encourage you to read the article I wrote on a similar topic: Can My Dog Get Sick from Eating Raw Meat?
It addresses a few of the questions and common misunderstandings people have about the subject of raw foods for dogs.
Just be warned, you’re not going to like it, as I take an even harder stance than Kayla does.
Thanks for reading.

You don’t need to be a scientist to make raw food. Several vets provide step by step instructions online to make a raw diet meal. As far as cooked food is concerned, it’s harder to balance minerals and vitamins because they have to now be added to cooked food. Now we’re talking synthetic additives which aren’t absorbed as well as natural. Raw already contains most of what a dog needs minus a bone meal or flaxseed powder and some liquid omegas. If you’re working with raw food clean your hands and your work area. Clean the area around where your dog eats. You should be putting thier food bowl away and cleaned after every meal and not left out. Clean up as you would after making a homecooked meal. Dogs have evolved since before 100 years ago when kibble was introduced and raw subsided? Where’s the scientific evidence that a dogs digestive system has evolved in anyway since thier inception? Short answer, it hasn’t.
