Why LED Dog Collars Rock
Reflective collars can help make your pooch more visible at night, but collars that light up using LEDs are; much better. A few of the reasons LED light up dog collars are so great include:
They make it easier to keep track of your pooch at night. LED dog collars are fantastic for keeping tabs on your dog at night. While you may not need to see your pooch glowing around in your backyard, they’re great for many outdoor situations, such as impromptu trips to the beach at night or camping in the woods. Instead of fretting over where Fido ran off to, you can keep an eye on his glowing, wiggly butt as he runs around.
They help make your dog visible to motorists. At night it’ll be pretty tough for motorists to see dogs darting out in the middle of the streets. LED light up collars make it easy for drivers to see your pooch and can go a long way to preventing accidents.
They’ll help YOU see at night. LED collars are also handy for illuminating a dark path while you walk with your pooch. Rather than holding onto a flashlight, your dog’s collar can glow to show bumps in the sidewalk or roots in the woods, helping to reduce tripping or falling.
Light up collars make it easier to pick up poop at night. Lastly, trying to hold on to your dog’s leash and your phone (with flashlight mode enabled), all while fumbling with a dog poop bag isn’t any fun. Your dog’s collar can shed enough light to give you a spare hand and make picking up poop that much easier.

Hey there, pet parents. K9 of Mine editor Ben, here.
I have been using the Nite IZE Disc-O Tech Collar Light for a few months with my pooch, so I wanted to share our experiences.
Overall, I’ve found it pretty great!
For starters, it is very bright. In addition to making my black-coated dog visible to motorists, it also makes it easier for me (and, I assume, my dog) to see during our pre-dawn walks.
All of the various light up modes and options are great (check out the “disco” function in the video below), but I find it a bit annoying to cycle through the various modes, so I pretty much keep it set to display a solid green light.
The battery life is pretty good too. We walk for about 2 to 3 miles every morning, and I find that I only have to charge it about once a week.
I initially hoped to use it around the house at night (she is impossible to see when it is dark inside, and I don’t want to step on her). But unfortunately, it doesn’t last long enough for that kind of use. By the time I wake up in the morning, the battery is already dead and in need of recharging.
I would prefer if you didn’t have to take the back cover off the tag to charge it. This isn’t the end of the world, but it’s kind of a drag.
Minor problemos aside, I heartily recommend this light up collar tag to other owners who need to make their pupper more visible at night.
(Incidentally, I grabbed this at REI, but it is available for a lower price on Amazon.)

Things to Consider in an LED Dog Collar
Before you purchase an LED dog collar, there are a few different features you may want to consider when shopping:
Style and Design. LED dog collars come in a few different styles – some collar have LED strips that surround the entire collar, while other units have LED lights only on certain sections of the collar. Having a 360 light design may or may not be important to you.
Durability and Quality. LED dog collars can range in terms of quality. You’ll likely want a durable, high-quality collar that will be able to last past just a few walks. Also keep in mind that whenever you buy something with electrical components, it’s better to spend a bit extra, as cheaper units tend to have more electrical failures and won’t last as long.
Brightness. All the units we cover in this article are considered appropriately bright. If you shop elsewhere, make sure to test out the collar’s brightness to make sure it’s adequate – a dull light up collar isn’t much fun or very useful.
Battery. Most of the LED glow dog collars listed here use a USB re-chargable battery, but some use coin batteries as well. Re-chargable batteries are convienent and environmentally friendly, but coin batteries can often hold a charge much londer.
Waterproof. If you live in an area where the climate is frequently wet and it rains often, make sure to get an LED dog collar that is waterproof. Few units will be completely waterproof to the point where they’ll withstand being submerged in water, but many are at least water resistant enough to hold up in light rain.
Colors. LED light up dog collars often come in several colors for you to choose from, so pick a shade that will match your canine!
Adjusting and Resizing. LED dog collars can be adjusted a few different ways. Some can be resized by sliding the resizing buckle (same as traditional collars). Other units require the owner to cut a piece of LED cord to an appropriate neck length. If you plan on using the same collar on multiple dogs, you may want to seek out an adjustable option.

Use one like the “5-pack waterproof LED collar clip”. The black dog is 120 pounds, built like a lab but with much longer legs, hair a bit longer. With our extended darkness (Sunrise 1030, sunset 3:30, on darkest day), a black dog needs something. This is a semi-rural area, roads are narrow, no sidewalks. The bright red flash even reflects off things like pine branches. When he’s exploring for Snowshoe Hares or Spruce Grouse, you want to have some idea where he is & where he’s going to come out on the road. On-coming cars and ATVs really do spot that light. He’s too friendly; is sure a car will stop so he can greet them.
He had a flexible enough neck he can (and will) chew on it, so have to remember to take it ff him.
We really want the collar-type, like the Blazen’ Safety that uses USB charging, but no one wants to ship to Alaska, maybe because of the lithium batteries? No one on Amazon would ship, and it seems like everyone is out of his size (21″ neck), anyway. The dangling clip-on is way better than nothing – way better, but we’d like to do better than that. We have very limited brick-and-mortar choices. Going to try to persuade the Vet to order one – or a supply.

Thanks for sharing!
We’ve never heard of these kinds of shipping restrictions to Alaska, but we’ll look into it!

I actually have purchased several of the #5 LED clip on lights from a variety of manufacturers. Some of them (from certain manufacturer) do not work once the battery has to be replaced. A big downside to these is that you can’t always see the light, depending on how the dog positions herself. I just recently purchased #2, the Bseen LED collar light. Already lost one of those. My two dogs rough-house with each other when we’re out walking, and every time, one or both of the collars would get ripped off by the other dog. I loved how the Bseen collar could easily be seen from anywhere, but they don’t do much good if they don’t stay on the dogs’ necks! Still looking for a good way to light-up my dogs on our walks. My dogs already wear a Sportdog control collar when we walk, so I don’t want to add another bulky collar to what they’re already wearing.

I love a light up collar because my dog is black and at night it’s hard to see her even at the end of a leash. We had a collar, that she loved, but the batteries died, and when I was putting in new batteries, the LED strip snapped off. Now I’m looking for one that is sturdier because she misses her lights.

I’m looking for a collar for my cat… probably solar, since I let her out about 8am and my goal is to be able to find her if she doesn’t come in at night, so I need something that probably only comes on at night, or else the battery would die before it gets dark and we need it. Does anyone know of anything like this? Thx.
