The fingernail test is a great way to help reduce the chances of broken teeth, and we’re also big fans of frozen KONGs.

Excellent article. My rule of thumb is never to give them anything I could bang a nail into the wall with . Fractured teeth. ouch. I like that you don’t shy away from the real cons of these. For us, Bully sticks last the longest. There are also those new No-Hide treats which are not bad. But really, IMO, the Kong or the Topple, filled and frozen with healthy food like vegetables, fruit, cottage or ricotta cheese (not too much) and frozen hard overnight…those are the safest, longest lasting choice of all.

All chews do present some risks, but a few of them are absolutely worth trying!

Personally, I am very risk-averse with my pupper. However, I offer her yak cheese, collagen chews, tracheas, and pig ears without hesitation. Bully sticks are also fantastic (I just think they’re a bit expensive).
Let us know which one you try and how it works out!

In closing, there are no good, healthy, long-lasting chews for dogs. 🙁 🙁

I just want him to have a chew that is not plastic/nylon / doesn’t splinter or break teeth / lasts a long time / doesn’t make a mess.
