Tips for Taking Your Dog to a Bar
It’s important to keep Spot safe when heading out to your local speakeasy. Here’s a couple of tips you’ll want to keep in mind when heading out with your furry friend:
- Know your limits. You shouldn’t be getting hammered with your hound. In order to keep you and your dog safe, you need to know your limits so that you can safely return home with your furry friend.
- Don’t give your best buddy booze. Hopefully, you know this already, but alcohol isn’t one of the foods you should share with your dog. Make sure your dog stays far away from your cocktail and isn’t lapping up any spillage. Alcohol can, unfortunately, cause vomiting, diarrhea, breathing difficulty, and even death for dogs.
- Give your pooch potty breaks. Proactively avoid accidents by taking your dog out for a potty break before heading over to the bar. If you’ve been there for a couple of hours, remember to take another break outside the bar so that your buddy doesn’t burst his bladder.
- Make sure it’s a good fit for Fido. Not all dogs will appreciate the commotion that comes with a dog bar. There are plenty of alternative activities you can enjoy with your canine companion if you suspect that the bar isn’t the proper place for your pooch. If at any point it’s clear that Fido is having a bad time, just go ahead and call it a night. The safety of your pooch always comes first.
- Take a long walk beforehand. One of the best ways to help your dog relax while spending time at the bar is to incorporate some exercise ahead of time. Take your pooch on a long walk or to the dog park before hopping over to one of these hound-friendly hangouts.
- Be considerate of other patrons. Not everyone wants to interact with your cutie pie (I know, it’s hard to believe). Your dog should master his basic mutt manners like sit, stay, and come. You need to keep an eye on your dog at all times.
- Pack for your pooch. Some dog-friendly bars provide water bowls, but you can’t always count on one being available or full for your canine companion. Pack waste bags, a dog water bottle, and potentially a towel or two to put down in an Uber if you’re catching a ride home.

As you can see, there are plenty of spots to enjoy Seattle night life with your furry friend. Just make sure you keep your canine companion safe and don’t go too hard on the booze while out with Buddy.
