Hey there, Jeni. We’re sorry to hear about your pooch’s struggles with resource guarding, but we’re glad you found the article helpful.
It’d probably be a good idea to reach out to a trainer or behaviorist, but most of Kayla’s tips should work for bones as well as food.

Best of luck!

Actually any bone, & if she’s currently not chewing on or not even around a bone as soon as she sees my husband walk near she growls, snarls, and in a very panicked way will run to find a bone. He has never taken anything away from her, doesn’t tease her, in fact other than this they play as well cuddle regularly. This behavior is new and worsening by the day. It’s not only unjustified, and dangerous, but it makes me feel bad as it is very hurtful to him. He loves the pup, (she just turned 1 & we’ve had her since she was 11weeks old.) I’m at a loss. I do now understand it a bit more though thanks to your article.

Hey, Paul.
The interaction between siblings can be pretty complex (not to mention chaotic), so we wouldn’t panic about the behavior. Things may sort themselves out without much effort on your part. Just try to provide plenty of “elbow room” for the pups, and reach out to a behaviorist if the problem persists or worsens.
Best of luck!

This happens with food and toys to the point where her sister is scared to be in the room with her. As younger puppies they had no problem eating out of the bowl together.

Hey, Karen. It’d probably be a good idea to work with a trainer at this point — especially given the fact that your pooch has been reacting aggressively toward your grand kids. You can just Google for one in your area, or you can check out Journey Dog Training — they provide distance-training options and you can receive a 10% discount on their services if you type in K9ofMine at checkout.

There are vibrating and beeping collars that can be helpful in training situations, but I’m not sure they’re going to be helpful in this case.
Best of luck!
