Hey there, Darlene.

We’d recommend trying Erin’s plan for dogs who’re sensitive to other dogs — just use the TV instead.
You may need to rent or stream a movie or documentary with lots of animals in it, which you can pause as need be.

Best of luck!

How do i get him to stop barking at the TV?
Animals appear spontaneously on TV, so its not a controlled situation like walking….

Hey, Jenna. Glad you found the article helpful!

When I started trying to desensitize my pooch to people and dogs, I found that really big, really empty parks worked well. It’s not always easy to find one that has sufficient space and enough triggers to practice desensitization, so you may have to hunt around a bit.

It may be helpful to experiment with different times of day — there are often “windows” of time during the middle of the day when most people are at work/school that work best.
Best of luck!

I have a dog who we rescued who is so fearful and has suuuuch a low threshold, I don’t know how to begin. If it is within his line of sight (people walking by our apartment, or if on leash, literally anything, dog, person, car, you name it) then he is already above his threshold. There is literally no space that is far enough away where he actually notices the trigger and doesn’t react in a barking, lunging, growling, etc. manner. Where is a good type of place to work with him?
