At the beginning you mention that you wrote it with unvaccinated puppies in mind. If the socialization window typically ends by 16 weeks but vaccines aren’t finished until then, I’m still unsure how to safely socialize an unvaccinated puppy with other dogs. Can you please explain that a little more?

There’s always time, Katalin! What are your goals with your dog? If she’s happy being “dog selective,” that can be just fine! My own dog doesn’t really love having doggie friends for the most part.

I couldn’t afford the surgery and the vet told me she should not play with other dogs until it was fixed. If it was accidentally opened further by another dog it would be emergency surgery that would cost even more. She did meet some dogs on walks but there was no play. I had the hernia repaired during her spaying. She liked other dogs but rarely plays with them. She developed a crush on a neighbor’s pitbull but play was mostly her running around him which only interested him for a few minutes. He was 70 lbs and she was 12 lbs. I got another dog hoping they would play but he was too low energy even though they were a month apart in age. She will be 11 years old this year, so I don’t think getting another dog will make a difference.
