Some dogs definitely can become obsessed, Audra! Best of luck.

My sister came to visit over New Years, and would sit and throw the ball for hours on end. At first it was great! A way to wear out this endlessly energetic dog? Hallelujah. But it quickly became annoying, and then finally tonight, she snapped at me when I refused to throw the ball for her. Time for some strict rules, for sure. Thank you for the tips.

I had a chocolate Lab that was the same way, Andy!
Food for thought: Consider teaching him to use an automatic dog ball launcher. This way, he gets to play fetch without you having to do anything (except teach him to use it).

Best of luck!

OBSESSED with fetch, and will growl and growl/snap if another dog gets between him and me when he is returning the ball for more of his crack/fetch. A dog grabs his ball, he waits patiently to get it back but wont actively go after it unless they’ve dropped and moved far away.
He was a rescue and just isn’t into playing with dogs, sometimes he’ll share the ball and have a good joint fetch session. He’ll do zoomies in the park with another dog some days – but otherwise when its us two – he is in fetch mode!
I’m hiding the toys tonight and getting more bones because its annoying to have him drop toys in my lap when I’m trying to read, watch tv or have friends over.

We’ve locked up all the toys, but like yours, she’ll find ANYTHING, scraps of tissue, etc etc., to bring you and expect to be thrown. The times she doesn’t find something, she’ll start counter surfing for things. I’m not sure there’s a level of clean that exists in daily life to keep her from finding something!
