Did you know, between daytime naps and nighttime slumber, most dogs get 12-14 hours of shut-eye a day?
Considering how much time your dog spends in dream, it may be worthwhile to forgo the Dollar Store dog bed and spend a little more on something a bit more extravagant.
In this article, we’ll look reasons you might want to splurge a little on a luxury dog bed and factors to consider when making your purchase. Then, we’ll review a few of the best luxury beds so you can find one that suits your dog’s sleeping preferences, whether he likes to spread out, curl up, or snuggle.
Why Buy a Luxury Dog Bed?
Many owners buy a high-quality dog bed to help their dog get some quality rest.
Sleep is critical because pups who don’t sleep well or enough may start to have health or behavioral problems. In this way, dogs aren’t that different than people; insomnia not only makes us grouchy, but can lead to serious health problems such as diabetes and heart disease.
Upgrading to a better dog bed is just what some owners need to keep their pet healthy, happy, and well-behaved.
Older dogs, especially, may have sleep problems if they suffer from aches and pains or even arthritis. Many of the dog beds reviewed in this article are appropriate for such pets – you can also check out our guide to the best dog beds for senior arthritis dogs if you’re shopping for your older, aching pooch.
For other owners, the problem may not be whether or not their dog is sleeping, but where he is sleeping – maybe in his owner’s soft, cushy bed or on the brand new couch.
Some pups love luxury and cannot be convinced to move off the couch for a dollar store dog bed which barely cushions the cold, hard floor. In this case, buying a luxury dog bed which rivals the bed or sofa could be the owner’s best persuasion tactic.
A quality dog bed is not just more comfortable, but often more durable. For a puppy who sometimes has accidents or a dog with especially sharp nails, a poorly-made dog bed may not even last a week (or a day). If your dog is rough on her bed, spending a little extra for a well-made product might be warranted.
In this article, we’ll look at some beds that are easy-to-wash and made of waterproof or tear-resistant material.
Finally, some luxury beds might just look better in your home. This is no small thing – both you and your pup have to love the bed! This article will focus on those beds which satisfy both your pup’s need for comfort and your aesthetic eye.
What Factors Should I Consider In A Quality Dog Bed?
- Bed Shape. It’s important to make sure that the bed’s shape supports the way your dog likes to sleep. If she likes to stay cool and spread out, then a fluffy, heat-retaining circular bed is probably not a good fit.
- Firmness of the Bed. Pay attention to the material the bed’s padding is made from and how thick the padding is. For example, if your dog has aches and pains, check to make sure your pooch’s bed has at least 2 inches of foam.
- Size. Most of the dog beds we will review today come in several different sizes. Be sure to select the right dog bed size or your pooch might be too heavy or too small to enjoy the full benefits of his luxury bed!
- Fabric. Is your dog still a puppy or prone to accidents? If yes, make sure you get a bed that is waterproof. If your dog is a shedder, you will also want a bed that doesn’t show dog hair easily or one that dog hair doesn’t stick to easily.
- Easy-to-clean. Even if your dog doesn’t usually have accidents, you will still want to wash your pooch’s bed once in a while. You will need to know if your dog bed can be machine washed and how easy it is to take apart and put back together again.

Best Friends by Sheri’s Faux Fur Cuddler
Soft donut-shaped dog bed that’s perfect for snuggling
Features:
- It’s donut-shaped, with foam edges about 5 inches high. The center of the bed, where your dog sleeps, has about 2 inches of padding.
- The bed comes in three sizes: small (for pets up to 25 pounds), medium (for pets up to 45 pounds), and large (for pets up to 60 pounds).
- The fabric of the bed is machine-washable, and some owners even report that it is possible to through the whole bed in the washer and dryer.
PROS
This bed is the least expensive of the beds reviewed here. Most customers commented that it was easy-to-wash, especially since the bed does not need to be deconstructed to go through the washing machine or dryer. Especially owners with smaller dogs reported that their pet loved snuggling up in this bed.
CONS
This bed has less foam in the middle section where your dog sleeps than other beds reviewed here. This bed is better for a dog who prefers snuggling in warm materials while not necessarily requiring thick, luxurious cushioning underneath. A few owners mentioned that the faux fur got matted after washing, so it may not be the best choice if you have a dog who is especially accident-prone
2. eLuxury Supply Orthopedic Dog Bed
eLuxury Supply Orthopedic Dog Bed is a simple, high-quality dog bed that could better be described as a mattress. - The 5-inch thick mattress has 3 inches of high-density supportive base foam and 2 inches of gel-enhanced memory foam.
- The cover is made of durable cotton canvas and, because the zipper goes along 3 sides of the bed, it can be removed easily if you need to wash it. Dog hair brushes off easily according to several owners.
- The canvas cover is not waterproof, but the padding is protected by a waterproof encasement.
- Dozens of designs and patterns are available for extra covers (not included)
PROS
This is perhaps the highest quality mattress being reviewed for this article (in fact, eLuxury also makes human mattresses). This bed will probably be good for a pet who is used to sleeping in a human bed or has achy joints. In addition, if you’re concerned about how the bed is going to look in your house, this company has many different options for dog bed covers and even sells covers separately (in all kinds of fun patterns) so you don’t need to buy a new dog bed to change looks.
CONS
The bed is sent in vacuum packaging and should expand when opened, but a couple of customers have had problems with the bed expanding correctly. Others thought that the mattress was not completely waterproof. This bed is also more firm than other beds on the market; many customers bought the bed for this reason, but other noted that their dog preferred a fluffier bed. Reviews for this bed were overwhelmingly positive and the company also offers a 90-night money back guarantee.

- The bed covering has an attractive, quilted pattern. You can easily take the cover of both the bed and the bolster off to wash.
PROS
Many customers commented that this bed is great value, providing their pups with just as much or more comfort than more expensive beds on the market. The zipper seems to be of better quality than other similar products, making it easier to wash — if you have to wash it at all; many owners note that this dog bed is easy to wipe clean.
CONS
The bolster that edges the bed is not very firm. If your dog likes a soft pillow or only uses the edges to snuggle into, this bed should still be a good fit for her. Also, some owners felt that the material of the bed did not stand up to more active pups who like to scratch.

Snoozer Luxury Orthopedic Cozy Cave Bed
Unique cave-like shaped dog bed for dogs who like to curl up and nest
Features:
- The bed has a unique flap over the top that makes the bed look like a pita pocket. The flap acts like a big, fluffy blanket which is great for pets who like to burrow into bed. Your pooch can easily get in and out because the flap is propped up from the inside by a plastic rod.
- The bed comes in three sizes: small (25-inch diameter), large (35-inch diameter), and extra-large (45-inch diameter).
- The orthopedic cozy cave has a great mattress, with 3 inches of foam topped by 2 inches of polyester batting. If you don’t need orthopedic foam for your pooch, you can save some money by looking into the luxury cozy cave with sherpa.
- The exterior of the bed is made from microsuede while the interior is made from Sherpa, a heavy fabric that is often used in making winter coats.
- The cover can be taken off and washed in the washing machine. Replacement covers are available on the company website.
PROS
This bed mimics being wrapped up in blankets but, instead of having to tuck your pup in, she can crawl in and out of the bed easily by herself. If your house gets cold at night, this bed is a great way to let your dog stay cozy. In addition, there are several different Cozy Cave models, so you can choose which bed is right for your pup and price range. You can also take a look at the Cozy Cave, the Luxury Cozy Cave, and the Orthopedic Cozy Cave. The bed also comes in a variety of colors and patterns, so it can match any room of your house.
CONS
This bed is a little pricier than the other dog beds reviewed so far, but you can save money by choosing a less-popular pattern or opting for one of the other Cozy Cave products. This bed isn’t waterproof, but it is washable. In summer months, this bed might be too hot for your dog, especially if you don’t have air-conditioning. A few customers noted that the fabric seems to disintegrate after a few washes. But, if your pup likes to cuddle up and isn’t prone to accidents, this bed would be a great fit.
5. Snoozer Luxury Overstuffed Microsuede Pet Sofa

Snoozer Luxury Overstuffed Pet Sofa
Couch-style dog bed stuffed with thick, polyester filling
Features:
- This bed is shaped just like a couch. The bolsters are removable, so you can decide how the bed will work best for your dog.
- This bed comes in three sizes: small (30”x20”), large (40”x30”) or extra-large (54”x36”).
- It is stuffed with thick, polyester filling. This means that the bed is comfortable and heavy, making it harder for your dog to move the bed around.
- It is made of microsuede and comes in several different colors and patterns. According to one reviewer, it is quite durable and is able to stand up even to pups that like to dig.
- The bed is not waterproof, but the cover zips off and can easily be washed. One commenter noted that the fabric dries quickly.
PROS
This bed looks like it could be a piece of furniture and even has enough room for a 180-pound Great Dane. If your dog likes jumping up on the couch, this bed could be a good alternative for her. A few owners even mentioned that there is enough space on the bed for you to sit with your dog. Also, because the bolsters are removable, you can provide your pup with more sleeping options. Leave the bolsters on and your dog can curl up into them; take them off, and your dog can spread out.
CONS
This bed is a bit expensive, although price varies depending on the size and color that you choose. The bed is not advertised as waterproof, so it may not be good for a dog who has lots of accidents.
6. Big Barker Pillow Top Orthopedic Dog Bed
The Big Barker is pricey, but its the best out there for large or giant-sized dogs.
Large dogs are more likely than smaller dogs to get aches and pains in their joints, so the 7 inches of orthopedic foam calibrated specifically for a big pup is a major selling point.

Big Barker Pillow Top Orthopedic Dog Bed
Premium orthopedic dog bed designed to relieve joint pain for Xl doggos
Features:
- This is a large, square-shaped bed that includes a headrest for your pup that likes a little head elevation.
- This bed comes in three sizes: large (48”x30”), extra-large (52”x36”), and giant (60”x48”).
- There are seven inches of orthopedic foam, including 2 inches of comfort foam on both the top and the bottom of the bed and 5 inches of support foam in the center.
- It has a soft, microfiber cover that can be zipped off and washed in the machine. The company also sells replacement covers.
- The bed is not waterproof, but if your pup is accident-prone, you can purchase a waterproof liner separately.

The University of Pennsylvania recently completed a clinical study that focused on the Big Barker’s ability to reduce joint pain and improve mobility in big dogs with arthritis.
The study involved 40 dogs, each of whom were at least 3 years of age and 70 pounds in weight.
An independent data analysis of these dogs showed the following:
- 17.6% enjoyed improved joint function
- 21.6% experienced a reduction in pain severity
- 12.5% exhibited reduced joint stiffness
- 9.6% displayed an improved gait
- 15.1% enjoyed an overall improvement in their quality of life

PROS
Many owners report that this bed is definitely built to last, with several coming back to update their positive reviews a year (or two or few) later with glowing comments about how it has held up. They also comment that the microfiber cover holds up well and is easy-to-clean, so you probably won’t need to buy a replacement cover unless you have the bed for a very long time or want to change up the color scheme in your home. In addition to an exceptional product, people were also very satisfied with the customer service.
CONS
The price was the biggest complaint about this bed. However, if your giant pooch has problems with arthritis, the price is probably worth it. Also remember you’re also getting a 10-year warranty on the bed’s foam, so if it does lose its shape, you can get another bed at no cost (or your money back). Another thing to remember – this brand caters specifically to large dogs, so this wouldn’t be a great fit (literally) for your small or medium-sized pup.

Is there any large bed for my Doberman service dog who streches out his legs and can eat through just about ANYTHING? Does the Big Barker bed replace the bed if he chews through the cover into the foam?
