DIY Dog Toothpaste Tutorial
- Difficulty: Easy
Ingredients:
- ¼ cup coconut oil
- 1 chicken or beef bouillon cube
- 3 tablespoons baking soda
- 6 to 7 mint leaves
- ½ teaspoon of cinnamon
Directions:
In a food processor, add coconut oil, bouillon cube, baking soda, mint leaves, and cinnamon.
Pulse until fully combined and store in an airtight container in your fridge for up to 2 weeks.
The coconut oil and baking soda help fight bacteria and plaque while the mint leaves and cinnamon are natural ways to freshen breath. The bouillon cube is simply used to enhance the flavor so it’s easier to brush your dog’s teeth.
Use a pea sized amount on a dog toothbrush. One thing I noticed when taking the toothpaste straight from the fridge, is that the coconut oil solidifies.
I massaged the toothpaste between my fingers to get back to a creamier consistency and spread on the brush before use.
Surprisingly all of my dogs responded well to the toothpaste, even my brother’s dog Mimi who hates getting her teeth brushed!
