DIY Dog Chew Directions:

Both of these recipes are easy; they just require a long time in the oven.

Note that these are similar to fruit leather recipes, and as long as you have them spread onto a sheet and cook them at a low temperature, you can make these with a bunch of different dog-friendly ingredients!

Pumpkin Applesauce Recipe

Mix applesauce and pumpkin puree in a bowl until combined. Make sure to buy pumpkin puree and not pumpkin pie filling.

Spread the mixture evenly on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Bake at 175°F for about 7-9 hours.

Since ovens vary and it depends on how thick and evenly you spread your mixture, make sure to check every hour at the 5 to 6 hour mark. These are ready to come out of the oven when the middle is no longer soft and sticky.

Mine took about 9 hours with both of these batches in the oven at the same time.

Cool for a bit on a cooling rack until the treats are still warm, but can also be easily handled.

You can cut this into small treat size pieces for your dogs as is, or you can cut them into around 3-inch strips, and then roll and twist them into chew sticks.

Right out of the oven, the edges of my mixture were a bit hard and began to crack. I noticed by the time they completely cooled, they became a bit softer and more malleable, so if you encounter the same cracking issue, you can roll them into shape more easily once they’ve completely cooled.

Peanut Butter Banana Recipe

Mix peanut butter and mashed bananas until combined.

Spread this mixture evenly onto your baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Bake at 175°F for about 7 to 9 hours.

Since ovens vary and it depends on how thick and evenly you spread your mixture, make sure to check every hour at the 5 to 6 hour mark. These are ready to come out of the oven when the middle is no longer soft and sticky.

Since these are thicker and more like jerky, simply cut these into strips or bite sized pieces.
